Big Fallout: The Frontier mod launches today

Fallout: The Frontier is a great size expansion mod for Fallout: New Vegas that has been in the works for years now. It adds a completely new map and story zone to New Vegas set in snowy Portland wilderness where three new groups are at war. The big project launches today and it sure seems like people are excited to play it.

“The Frontier is an open world, similar in size to the wasteland of DC, in which Portland Oregon is full of snow, with real landmarks and places,” said the creators. They say the modded expansion is happening at the same time as Fallout: New Vegas itself so you take your experienced messenger up north to explore a new conflict.

Up in the deserted lands of Oregon you will find a group of exiled NCR soldiers fighting against the north of the Legion and some refugees of the Brotherhood of Steel. You can catch the new release trailer above, in which the three faction leaders explain why they fight all the way up in the snow.

You can find more details over at The Frontier website and it ‘s very impressive. The creators say there are three main lines of quests and a good bunch of side quests as well. It also adds boss battles, new enemies, new creatures, and extra energy weapons. Plus, the whole thing involves voice acting, which is always an accomplishment for a major modding project.

You can download Fallout: The Frontier on Nexus Mods or on Steam. Be patient with that Nexus connection, though. Nexus has warned players through their Discord server that “the constant traffic on Friday night and the huge interest in Fallout: The Frontier together is seriously disturbing our servers”.

Enjoy the north coast, messengers. Just don’t run in at the same time.
