Beyonce, Taylor Swift makes Grammy history as women dominate big prizes

Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish won the top prizes at Sunday’s Grammy Awards but Beyonce was the top winner on a history-making night celebrated with multiple wins for women.

Beyonce’s four Grammys on Sunday – two shared by best new artist Megan Thee Stallion – won her career to 28. She now combines producer and multi-instrumentalist Quincy Jones for second place among Grammy winners and is only last. director Georg Solti, who is the 31st award-winning winner.

Swift’s amazing album “Folklore,” recorded during coronavirus locks, was named record of the year and made Swift, 31, the first woman to take home that award three times.

“It’s been such a difficult time,” Beyonce said, reflecting on the cultural notion of racism in the United States.

“I wanted to raise, inspire, celebrate the beautiful black queens and queens who inspire and inspire me all over the world,” she said.

Eilish said she was disappointed with the win, saying it should go to Megan. “You deserve it. Truly. Can we just celebrate for Megan Thee Stallion,” Eilish said.

The ceremony also aimed to move beyond the devastating effects of pandemic coronavirus infection on the live music industry, including the abolition of music festivals, tours and concerts.

British singer Dua Lipa won best pop voice record for the dance-y “Future Nostalgia” and spoke of the value of music in hard times.

“I am just as grateful and honest as happiness is something we all deserve,” Lipa said.

Hosted by Trevor Noah, the ceremony was packed with pre-recorded and live performances by the likes of Lipa, Taylor Swift, Post Malone, DaBaby, Black Pumas and Mickey Guyton. Cardi B and Megan teamed up to make their summer single “WAP” in one of the most exciting moments of the night.

BTS K-Pop lost in the best pop duo or group performance against Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande for their single “Rain on Me” but played their famous South Korean single “Dynamite” at the end of the show .

The seven-member band from South Korea had hoped to become the first K-Pop act to win a Grammy after a positive year in the United States for the genre.
