Beyoncé pays homage to a 13-year-old follower away from cancer

Beyoncé honors the memory of a young fan who recently died of cancer.

On Friday, March 5, the singer-songwriter shared a cappella video dedication to 13-year-old Lyric Chanel, who died the same day after battling Anaplastic Ependymoma, a type of brain and spinal tumor. Lyric’s journey was carefully recorded on Instagram by her family, receiving support and sympathy from hundreds of thousands of fans, including many celebrities like Bey and Cardi B.

In her video honoring Lyric’s memory, Bey sang cappella versions of “Love on Top,” “Halo,” and “Brown Skin Girl,” along with a montage of photos and video of the 13-year-old girl. The music medium introduced the name Lyric to the words “Love on Top,” with Beyoncé saying in the final voice, “I love you with all my heart. ”

In an Instagram post, Lyric’s mother thanked Beyoncé for her moving video, writing, “I am so thankful that Lyric was able to hear you sing with her before she left this world. “

This is not the first time Beyoncé has reached out to Lyric and her family. As CNN reported, the singer-songwriter sent a bouquet of flowers to Lyric in September 2020 after the young fan underwent brain surgery. “Honey, Honey I can see the stars all the way from here, I can see the sun when you’re close,” Beyoncé wrote in an accompanying card at the time. “I was so happy to see how those words inspired you, almost as much as you inspired me. I can’t wait to meet you one day and I’m so glad you’re safe home. You are a survivor. God bless you, B. ”
