Best Cyberpunk 2077 game sales 13 million after resale

Polish game studio CD Projekt SA sold 13 million copies of their troubled Cyberpunk 2077 game by December 20, a figure that is reflected in the number of refund requests received by the company.

The pending sales update does not include information on the scale of the refunds themselves, simply giving the net sales number. Cyberpunk was so wise that Sony pulled the title from its PlayStation store while Microsoft offered a full rebate to Xbox users.

“This figure represents estimated sales across all hardware platforms (including brick-and-mortar customer-generated products as well as digital storefronts), ie the ‘sell-through’ figure, less e-refund requests posted directly to the company, ”CD Projekt said in a management filing Tuesday.

The sales figure comes to about half of the 12-month sales forecast in Bloomberg’s study of nine analysts, which was taken before Sony removed the game from its store. The game had more than 8 million pre-orders before the first Dec. 10, prompted online outcry from players plagued by its poor performance and a drop in the price of Projekt’s CD installments.

CD Projekt rose 4.6 percent in Warsaw on Tuesday before the retail update was released. From its peak on Dec. 4, the company has lost 40 percent of its market value, or about PLN 18 billion (around Rs. 35,900 crores).
