Ben Gurion Airport Closes: “We are not a grocery store, an airport cannot open at the moment”

The chairman of the Airports Authority’s Workers’ Committee, Pinchas Idan, was interviewed today (Thursday) of Alon Gal and Liat Ron’s program “Where is the money” on 103FM, after the sky closes until the end of the closure period in Israel. Now, Idan vented his anger and recounted the difficulty of the workers in light of the situation: “We are not a grocery store that can be opened from now until now, we need to know in advance.” Idan was asked whether in light of the fact that Ben Gurion Airport is only closing now, is it not impudence that they are angry while most of the public sat at home for three closures, to which Idan replied that “we have 2,500 workers in the Knesset, only the essential workers. Is that work?” “

Liat: I heard your reaction to the closure of Ben Gurion Airport, you sound very angry.
“True, I am very angry and very hurt. It is sad and difficult, we are a year after the crisis started, it is not that we are at the beginning of the road. There was already a kind of closure and it is a pity we go back a year. I represent many workers who lost a lot of wages and conditions.

Liat: Who are you angry with?
“I’m angry at the whole world. I’m angry at the corona and the mutations that kill us. I’m angry at the decision-making, that every moment things change for us.”

Liat: Are you angry with the Prime Minister?
“I do not know if I am angry with the Prime Minister. I think the decision-making should have been different, not from moment to moment. We were not prepared. Now we are closed immediately, I do not know when they are going to open us. An airport is not a grocery store or a store that produces “Shoes that can be opened from now until now. We need to know in advance, they have not yet given us a date when the airport is going to open.”

Liat: The election is imminent and you are a strong witness.
“I do not want to put in the political section because the workplace is above politics. I will not determine for the workers for whom and what to vote for, but there is no doubt that it is exhausting as a workplace. We have management and workers who know how to work, the transport minister opened the field with the prime minister. “A laboratory to test those who go abroad, but unfortunately they did not test those who returned from abroad and brought the mutations. Everyone blames everyone, but in the meantime we are at the forefront and the workers are uncertain.”

Alon: You see difficult struggles, you are the chairman of a workers’ committee and a Histadrut member, and there is currently a struggle between the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance and the Histadrut. Where do you see Ben Gurion Airport’s interest in this matter?
“We have a strong Histadrut, I trust the chairman of the Histadrut and in the meantime everything is going at the pace of the corona. How does the prime minister say ‘it goes up, it goes down, it’s an accordion’, but in the meantime people are human beings and not an accordion.”

Liat: Most of the workers in the economy are sitting at home while Ben Gurion Airport was open, maybe your anger is not justified?
“I think you do not understand. Even though the field was open, how much would we spend? We were used to 100,000 passengers a day, we went down to 2,000. I have 2,500 workers sitting at home in Khalat, those who work are only those who are defined as essential. “What is it raised from the people? There is no work. It did not open the field and there was traffic of 2019, there are 2,000 passengers a day. Is it work?”
