The world-famous ice cream company Ben & Jerry’s launched yesterday (Monday) a series of new ice cream flavors, designed for dogs, so that at the end of every meal when we eat a sweet dessert, pets will also be able to enjoy. The dog desserts, which are sold in small cups of about 100 grams, will go on sale for the first time in the world in the US this month, and will slowly be marketed around the world. The dog ice creams come in two flavors, pumpkin with cookies and peanut butter and pretzel. Also, both flavors are made on the basis of sunflower butter, while the rest of the ingredients from which the ice cream is made are just like those of humans. Ben & Jerry’s is the latest food company to add animal-friendly foods to its product line, thus also causing a significant increase in the U.S. among the number of pet-owned households.
According to the data concentration company, Euro Monitor, worldwide spending on pet treats has jumped by about 44 percent over the past five years. Ben & Jerry’s recognized the potential and decided to put out dog food snacks with human ingredients. Lynsey Bumps, the company’s global marketing expert, said that already last year they were alert to the economic growth in the field and therefore decided to develop the ice creams for dogs. The ice creams were also made after consultation with a veterinary nutritionist, regulatory consultants and other experts in the field, in order to make sure that the ice creams are indeed suitable for dogs and are safe for their digestive system.
