Five Commercial Lunch Payment Services messages have been delivered to the lunar surface over the next three years. Intuitive Machines has two missions, and both will be launched by SpaceX, the release states.
Intuitive Machines is developing Nova-C, a lunar platform that was originally set to launch to the moon in 2021 but is now scheduled to be no earlier than 2022. Nova-C will deliver NASA payloads to the lunar surface, and the Nova-C scientific data gathering during the 13.5 days of life on the moon will help NASA in its mission to land humans on the moon as early as 2024, for the first time since the 1970s .
“Signing up with SpaceX for our IM-2 Polar Mission, our second scheduled lunar mission, is more than affordable lunar transport,” Intuitive Machines President and CEO Steve Altemus said in the news. “The launch of Nova-C on a rocket with a proven track record of exceptional reliability and value is a testament to NASA and our commercially responsible payment customers that IM is specifically for sticking to land in back moon missions. “
NASA awarded the second Intuitive Machines payroll delivery contract award Oct. 16, according to the news release.
“We are honored to launch Intuitive Machines’ important missions to the surface of the moon, ”SpaceX vice president of retail sales Tom Ochinero said in the news. “These missions, in partnership with NASA, will help further the goal of extending the reach of humanity beyond Earth.”
Intuitive Machines operates at Houston Spaceport.
