Batman was just on his own devastating event that Gotham refers to as ‘A-Day’, and he mirrors the video game ‘A-Day’ at Marvel’s Avengers.
Warning! Spoilers for DC’s Infinite end # 0 and Joker # 1 below!
DC Comics returns to the present day Future state see Batman’s city reaches the ‘A-Day’ ruin, and could be worse than the ‘A-Day’ Avengers experience in their recent video game. Both events saw huge losses and failures on the part of their heroes, although it is doubtful that Batman will be able to kick back from the destruction of Arkham Asylum in the same way that the Greatest Heroes are on Earth. The change of status quo in Gotham and the impact for Batman could be too difficult to get past the Dark Knight to get back to the way things were.

In Marvel’s Avengers’ story mode for the game from Crystal Dynamics, the Avengers celebrated a major headquarter and helicarrier release in San Francisco, powered by terrigen crystals. However, as a result of an attack during a terrorist attack the helicarrier exploded from its experimental energy source, resulting in a large amount of damage and a wave of terrigen smoke giving several citizens unstable powers. It was also believed that Captain America was killed and the Avengers disbanded as a result, leading to the rise of AIM to take their place. As such, the horrific event was known worldwide as ‘A-Day’.
In contrast, Batman and Gotham just got their own ‘A-Day’ in the comics, which can be seen on DC pages Infinite end # 0. Apparently attacked by the Joker (or at least made similar to it), Arkham Asylum was hit by a massive gas attack claiming hundreds of lives in the ensuing explosion, and failed. Batman get to Arkham before it was too late. In Joker # 1 from writer James Tynion IV with art by Guillem March, former commissioner Jim Gordon describes the events of ‘A-Day’, as well as the dark pound behind the name.
The fact that the city of Batman sees this invasion of Arkham as a “day” in Gotham is appalling and terrifying. It also communicates the city’s desire for similar events such as Joker War, City of Bane, War of Joker and Riddles, Zero Year, and countless other threats from being so common. Unfortunately, Gotham has turned their fears and anger on Batman and his family of vigilantes, and many citizens see them as part of the problem, demanding that they be prevented from doing more heroic work. which they see making matters worse.
Batman’s ‘A-Day’ may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back, and it’s possible that the mayor of Gotham is making his stand against Batman even stronger than he has ever been. While Ms. Marvel’s Kamala Khan’s efforts resulted in the Greatest Heroes of the Earth rebounding to fight back against the villainous AIM in the Avengers game, the Dark Knight not being able to get back to normal feeling like they did. Things seem to have changed unsustainably Batman, and he will have no choice but to face the new depth of darkness that Gotham is sinking into in other magazines from DC Comics.
