Bathurst Supercars opener to go on as Victoria lock builds up | Supercars News

The Supercars season opener is ready to go as planned with Victoria coming out of her snap lock.

Victoria was taken into custody late last week to help with the COVID-19 revolution linked to a hotel quarantine.

With six Melbourne-based teams, the five-day shutdown prompted Winton’s trial to be postponed until this Friday, and cast doubt on the Mount Panorama 500 opening later in the month as expected.

However, after a few days, the uprising seems to have taken place and Victoria is set to open at midnight tonight.

That means Friday’s Winton test can go ahead, and, hampering a change in conditions, Melbourne teams will be able to cross the New South Wales boundary for the Mount Panorama 500 on February 26-28 .

The green light in Victoria is also welcoming news for the second round of the 2021 Supercars season, which is currently taking place at Sandown in Melbourne on March 20-21.

It will also open the door for the second round of the TCR / S5000 seasons at Phillip Island to advance on its new March 12-14 date.

That incident was scheduled to be recorded this weekend but was pushed back as a result of the lockout.

The S5000 comes with a Supercars support bill

S5000 has toured Sandown’s next month Supercars to its 2021 record.

The open-wheelbase series effectively does what Supercars has done by replacing the gap left by Sandown left by the Australian Grand Prix on their calendar on the same date 20 -21 March.

It marks the first time the S5000 has entered a Supercars support bill, the division typically aligned with Australia’s TCR sister series on the Australian Motorsport Championships bill.

The move means the S5000 is now facing a double end in March, with the Phillip Island Motorsport Australian Tournament now scheduled for March 12-14.

It will also finish the 2021 S5000 fast-fire record, before moving into a split summer season a year later this year.

“After the disappointment that we missed our first Phillip Island date, this is a good result for the S5000 and a double-double for the region,” said S5000 division development manager Chris Lambden.

“Sandown-followed Phillip Island will ensure a spectacular fortnight of racing on two of Australia’s most historic tours – and the two places where the S5000 will shine.

“It should be a great show at both events. It’s a big thank you to the team of the Australian Racing Group and Supercars for putting it together.”

“Despite canceling or postponing other events, everyone has worked hard to ensure we can complete the full calendar and four-round award. [the Australian Drivers’ Championship] in May this year. “
