
The average price of the basic product basket formulated by the Ministries of Economy and Industry and the CBS was NIS 19 cheaper last November compared to December 2018 (when the basket was launched), and stood at NIS 970. In the discount chains, the discount was even sharper and reached NIS 55. That is 6% less than the average price two years ago.
The basket is based on data from the Consumer Council, which shows that the cheapest basket is that of Rami Levy online (NIS 842), while the most expensive is in the Super Alonit convenience store chain (NIS 1,117). The difference between the two is 33%, which is NIS 275. In the discount chains only, the difference between the expensive and cheap chains in the chains is 7%, which is NIS 58.
In terms of consumption categories, last November there was a decrease of about 3% in the meat and fish prices and a 2% increase in the breads category, as well as a 2% increase in the toiletries and cleaning category and a 3% increase in the vegetables and fruits category – compared to October. The price in the categories of dry food and milk and its products did not change.

And what about raising basket prices in the past year (November 19-20)? The highest increases were shown by the market warehouses and Rami Levy – 13% and 4%, respectively, compared to November last year. On the other hand, the Stop Market and Tiv Ta’am chains showed the highest price decrease since November last year, at 6% and 4%, respectively.
In an examination of the increase / decrease in basket prices between October and November 2020 only, it was found that Maayan 2000 and Rami Levy on the Internet presented the highest price increases – 3% (NIS 32) and 2% (NIS 14), respectively. In contrast, Rami Levy and Mega in the city showed the highest price decline at a rate of 4% (NIS 32) and 3% (NIS 25), respectively.
The tested basket includes 68 basic products that are the best-selling in the categories of milk and its products, bread, meat and fish products, dry food, fruits and vegetables, and toiletries and cleaning products. The products in the basket constitute a significant share of household expenditure.
