Ava DuVernay Inks Deal multi-year with Spotify to produce Podcasts

Oscar-winning filmmaker Ava DuVernay and her art collection ARRAY are partnering with Spotify for a multi-year partnership to produce non-fiction and non-written audio programs.

Under this new partnership, ARRAY will produce scripted and non-scripted podcasts in collaboration with the Spotify Gimlet-owned studio directed by ARRAY Filmworks President Sarah Bremner.

“Recognizing the undoubted power of voice and sound, I am thrilled to extend ARRAY stories into the realm of podcasts,” DuVernay said in a statement. “The opportunity to work with Lydia Polgreen and the her passionate team to Spotify as the home for our audio reports and we couldn’t have been more excited to embark on this new creative journey. “

Spotify has over 320 million monthly active users and 144 million subscribers to its Premium service. Spotify’s work aligns with ARRAY’s mission of narrative change and will increase a number of voices and scenes through podcasting.

DuVernay and ARRAY are teaming up with several creators who have applied to make Spotify podcasts.
