Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone has been adamant over rumors linking Marcos Alonso with Chelsea to the La Liga giants.
Alonso, 30, has been frozen out of the first team set up by Frank Lampard and has not appeared in the matchday squad since Chelsea’s 3-3 draw at West Brom in September.
He was asked to comment on the rumors linking Alonso to Atlético[via The Independent] Simeone, as stated by Metro, said: “I am not talking about what is being said from the outside.
“I’m thinking about the game tomorrow [vs Getafe]. We have a competitor who always competes well, they didn’t get good results but they have developed and competed to the highest level in the games they played. “
Despite the Spaniard ‘s current contract at Chelsea running until 2023, Chelsea could bring in Alonso’ s money if the right offer shows itself, with Emerson Palmieri earning the trust of his manager as a backup to Ben Chilwell at left back.
Alonso didn’t help his case either, recently enjoying an Instagram post showing the case on Chelsea’s 3-1 derby against Arsenal.
A move back to Spain could be suitable for all parties, as Atlético Madrid need cover in the full-back position with Kieran Trippier’s betting ban ruled him out of action for 10 games.
