Will this move close the saga once and for all? Barcelona today (Wednesday) officially announced the signing of 28-year-old Frenchman Leo Westerman on a one-and-a-half year contract until the summer of 2022. He actually arrives from Fenerbahce and will already be training today, after his registration was completed before the Euroleague transfer window expires (19 : 00).
Whoever is likely to lose his place on the roster soon is Thomas Hartl. As you may recall, the Catalans are not interested in Hartl’s services, but it has not yet agreed to release his contract. If he does not leave tonight, the team will have to cover his contract (2 million euros per season). It is still unclear what will ripen here.
In any case, Westerman will strengthen Sharas’ squad, after the Lithuanian and his team have suffered three consecutive losses in the Euroleague since this well-publicized saga emerged (against Maccabi Tel Aviv, Andulo Zero and Bayern Munich). The Frenchman played throughout his career in big teams like CSKA Moscow, Z. To Giris and before that also to the partisan Belgrade, Willerbahn and Limoges.
He has won two Lithuanian championships, two in Serbia and one Turkish Cup, but never in the top factory on the continent. So far this season he has averaged 4.8 points per game in 12:36 minutes and added 2.3 assists.
