Astronauts send a ‘quick’ message, greetings from space

Astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) have recorded a video message, extending Christmas greetings to the people of Earth, burning hope in a year challenged by a global pandemic. As many as seven astronauts are celebrating their holiday season in space as members of NASA’s Expedition 64 crew rested. Astronauts Mike Hopkins, Victor Glover, Shannon Walker, and Kate Rubins, and Japanese space program astronaut Soichi Noguchi sent an intriguing message of ‘suffering’ and blessings to people around the world amid the horrors of the global pandemic.

In a video shared by ISS on Twitter, the team can be seen spreading vulnerabilities while remembering lives lost by the health emergencies and recognizing frontline workers. “We chose that name [Resilience] in honor of people around the world and the teams that will help make our mission possible in a year that has changed our lives, “Hopkins said. We would also like to remember all those we lost this year. “There could not have been a more appropriate name to describe 2020,” Glover said. “The resilience of the human spirit is something we can truly celebrate in this special season.” Resilience is the name of the SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule that the astronauts launched into the ISS last month.

Meanwhile, Walker said, “As we prepare to keep an eye on the holidays far away from our loved ones, we look down on our precious planet, and it ‘s make it clear how connected we really are. ” Hopkins was among the crew launched aboard the ISS on November 16, with astronauts Victor Glover, Shannon Walker, and Japan Aerospace Research Group Soichi Noguchi on Crew Dragon Resilience.

Christmas ‘away from family’

In separate photos, the astronauts of Expedition 64 commented on the importance of holiday festivals away from home. Walker emphasized such a strong connection to people on and off the ground. “For me, it means the three‘ Fs ’, family, friends, and food,” she said. Meanwhile, Kenny Todd, NASA’s deputy program manager for the space station, said in the video that the team was going to get “some kind of Christmas food on orbit.” He said, “I don’t think that’s going to be any surprise to them, but anything more than that, I don’t want to get out in front of Santa Claus.”
