The 28th round of the English league opened tonight (Friday) when Newcastle from the bottom hosted Aston Villa who dream of taking a place at the top of the table. At the end of a real thriller and late goals, Newcastle scored just before the end in extra time and set up a 1-1 draw.

The Villa have already counted a third game in a row without a win and missed an opportunity to pass at least temporarily over Liverpool in the table and they remain in ninth place, while the Magpies for their part may end the round below the red line but only if Fulham manage to impress Manchester City, but it should be noted that the Whites will have a game One more anyway.

Both teams actually had to get by without their stars and this is evident on the pitch. At Newcastle this is the injured Callum Wilson, while Aston Villa’s excellent Jack Grillish is also unfit and missed the encounter. The Villa have already seen the win come from a goal by Oli Watkins (86), but deep into extra time, in the 94th minute, Jamal Lasles scored and set up a points distribution that does no good to any of the teams.
