What brings the Aston Martin name to F1?

Aston Martin is a well-known car brand that scrapes British luxury. Think James Bond. Think royalty. Think heritage. But for a long time – since their last team adopted the grid more than 60 years ago, of course – the maker and cultural icon had not considered Formula 1 as a priority for the Aston name.

But that all changed in early 2020 when a consortium led by Lawrence Stroll, owner of the Racing Point team, bought a key role in Aston Martin – bringing a major revival back and a return to F1 .

“It is, I think, the biggest thing that has happened to Formula 1 in decades,” Stroll said recently.

So Aston Martin has raced in F1 before?

Yes, but only for two seasons in 1959 and 1960 and they did not enter five races before leaving the sport. You may have noticed their brand on F1 cars a few seasons ago as they have been Red Bull title fans for the past five years (with that partnership being is now coming to an end), but the benefits of Aston motor sports have come largely in endurance races rather than F1.

Is this a completely new team?

Not exactly. While there will be a new name and a new look (more on that later) for 2021, Aston Martin is not starting from the very beginning when it comes to coming into the F1 grid, instead taking over the established Racing Point team.

Silverstone’s outfits, formerly known as Force India and Jordan GP (just to name a few), improved significantly up to a quarter last year and have retained key employees, and the philosophy of their car, with the goal is to fight midfield. competing with McLaren, Ferrari and the rebranded Alpine team this year.

What color is Aston Martin expected to launch?

Gone will be a pink Racing Point, with Aston Martin ready to race in the British racing arena.

What is that, you ask? Dark green. Why that color? Well, Aston have made the most of their first foray into motorsport – incorporating their F1 short spell – with the color coming from the early 1900s when British teams raced in national colors (changing from traditional red, white and blue to Shamrock green at a race in Ireland).

The shadow has moved, and Aston Martin will now bring it back to F1, pulling out of the design several times over the winter.

Who are the drivers?

Aston Martin wanted to shower when they returned to the grid and the signing of four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, albeit perhaps more because of his previous success than his recent form, brings beyond that.

Vettel joins Lawrence ‘s son Lance Stroll, who continues to show steady improvement as he prepares for his third season with the team, with Sergio Perez – now at Red Bull – somewhat unfortunate to lose his chair.

Is Vettel beyond his best?

If you were just comparing the Red Bull form that won the Vettel title with his last years at Ferrari – you have to say that. The German, who should have enjoyed his racing peak at the age of 33, has struggled with unscrupulous mistakes and has taken control of Charles Leclerc.

But Aston Martin believes they can revive Vettel – saying he “needs some love” and that it is “our job to put our arm around him”.
