It is doubtful if there is a person who does not know the man who has become a brand over the years – Assaf Amdursky. This week he is celebrating his 50th birthday and in honor of the joyous occasion he was hosted at Rivka Michaeli’s studio on 103fm. The musician, singer, arranger, composer, music producer and winner of the Ophir Prize spoke about the work in the shadow of the corona and the collaboration with Yizhar Ashdot.
For the past 30 years, Assaf Amdursky has had a great influence on Israeli music, so it is not surprising that the band ‘Ice Nine’ released a song bearing his name in 2000 – ‘Assaf Amdursky’. In a conversation with Rebecca Michaeli he expressed his opinion on the hit, saying: “It’s awkward but funny. I really liked this band and I’m sorry they broke up. They’s great, except for this song which is a bit psychic, but okay.”
In honor of his birthday, the musician released a new song, which he recorded and created in the period between the first and second quarantine – ‘You and I travel slowly’. “Ronen Ben Horin is a close friend who worked with me on the second album and later on silent engines. 13 years passed that we did not meet in the studio, he was called and came and did very nicely. I’m very upset, “he said.
The song comes about a year after the collaboration with Yizhar Ashdot in the hit ‘Internal Information’. Amdursky told how the connection was made: “The late Dubik and my late sons were friends in Jerusalem as young girls, Yizhar is 12 years older than me and we did not grow up together. Our friendship is from the last days. “It took me many years to stop looking at it from below, after you see someone the gap of the stage appears and the audience is saved. There is awe completely.”

He said that he recently spoke with Shalom Hanoch’s partner, Limor, about the thoughts he had in his youth about artists in their 50s and older: “When I was 24, we got to talk, and I simply said unequivocally – ‘Good guys, clear the area. “You did what you did. Age 50-45? Enough, give space to the younger generation. Take the stage, thank you very much, your service is no longer needed.”
When asked how he would have reacted if he had been told this today from the height of his age, he replied: “‘You are right’, I will say. ‘Your whole stage, let’s give content, now is your time’. This is something I did not forget from the moment I said it, “I’m trying to validate my work. I want to know that it has value, that the song is no longer a song that already exists and didn’t need another one,” he added: “Adapting your meaning and content in new meanings – that’s Allah’s mission.
These days Amdursky says that he is working hard: “In the last year that there were not many performances, I released some time. So I recorded a lot of material, 3 albums recorded only from last March and the hand is out. I try to take advantage of the time for me. “Another 3-2 albums. Last night I launched an album that is officially coming out today, a remix album called ‘Dismantled’ in which a selection of artists younger than me and very talented. This is a very special album.”
