Partey told Astro Stadium: ‘It’s sad when you play against him.

‘I remember playing against him, he’s so understanding, he’s always fast on the ball, he won’t give you a chance to win the ball.

‘It’s amazing to have him here. I hope he has a good season and can help us achieve what we want to achieve. ‘

Odegaard is looking to put himself on the European radar again with Arsenal after he struggled to get his Real Madrid job going.

After joining the Spanish giants at the age of 16, Odegaard was seen as one of the most exciting talents in world football but his time in Madrid was unplanned.

Amidst a lack of game time in Madrid, Odegaard has been loaned out to the likes of Heerenveen, Vitesse and Real Sociedad – where he shone – before joining Arsenal.

And now with games coming thick and fast, Arsenal are hoping the 22-year-old Norwegian star will play a big part until the end of the campaign.

The attacking midfielder looked lively after coming on as a substitute in the second half for the Gunners in their 1-0 loss at Aston Villa on Saturday.

He will be desperate for an immediate victory as Arsenal look to return to Premier League wins against Leeds at the Emirates next Sunday.

The Gunners – who are lamenting 10th place in the Premier League – have lost a tough week, having lost to Wolves before falling to beat Villa.
