(Reuters) – Arsenal have suffered an injury blow ahead of a full Christmas record, with captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang facing up to two weeks on the sidelines due to calf snoring.

Gabon striker Aubameyang lost on Saturday 2-1 to Everton in the Premier League and is expected to be ruled out of the League Cup tie on Tuesday against Manchester City, as well as Premier League matches against Chelsea. on Boxing Day and Brighton & Hove Albion three days later.

“We want it back as soon as possible but it has a small weight,” Arteta said. “We need a few days, I don’t know if it’s a week or two. It will depend on how the injury changes. ”

Saturday’s result means Arsenal have lost five of their last seven league games and are in 15th place with 14 points, four points away from the relegation zone.

This is their worst start to a season since 1974-75, highlighting the Spaniard Arteta, who took over the club in December last year.

“There is no question, the results are not good enough and they do not meet the standards of this club and this is the challenge and the fight that we face,” said Arteta.

“It’s a very complicated situation, but I’m encouraged by what I see from the players to continue to do what we’re trying to do.”

Former England captain Alan Shearer said Arteta should be worried about his future.

“I wouldn’t be sure [if they will stay up]. Not with that starting team and the opinion of some of those players, ”Shearer told the BBC. “Arteta should be a man of concern to be in charge of that group of players. ”
