Are you trying to remember something? Here’s how coffee can help you learn

In the world of health and wellness, coffee does not have a good reputation. Too much coffee can cause nausea, cause anxiety, insomnia and in the long run this can lead to irregular heartbeat. But not everything about this caffeinated drink is harmful. It has been proven time and time again that caffeine can help us in some way. According to new data, your java cup can increase your memory power, helping you to remember things in the long run.

How our brains work

It has been found that coffee can repair the broken strands of DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) that help you to remember things very easily. Li-Huei Tsai, PhD, Picower professor of neuro-science and director of the Picower Institute for Learning and Memory at MIT, explains that every time our brain cells break down, we learn something new, which creating damage that the neurons need to repair immediately. The problem is that as we age, the speed at which these repairs slow down, causing memory loss and other mental damage such as depression. With aging the effectiveness of the DNA repair system is compromised, leading to the accumulation of damage. This gets worse if the person suffers from any kind of genetic conditions.

How coffee can solve this issue
The latest finding shows that regular coffee can resolve this issue in older adults by repairing the damage faster. In a study published in March 2016 in the journal Molecular Nutrition and Food Research, scientists shared the information that drinking coffee can help reduce the process of DNA breakdown and can repair the damage within two an hour.

The study

For the study, the team from Kaiserslautern University in Germany administered 200 milliliters of coffee to 13 healthy men four times over eight hours. After this, they took blood samples of all the participants to judge the integrity of DNA. The DNA breakdown was observed to decrease within two hours after eating a cup of coffee. Within eight hours, the rate dropped 30 percent the levels before the test.

The Borders
Several previous studies have already shown that drinking coffee may have some health benefits. Not only does coffee strengthen your brain power, but it can also help fight type 2 diabetes, liver disease, and breast cancer. This study also establishes a relationship between drinking coffee and repairing DNA strands, but still, more research is needed in this area.

What is the amount of coffee
If you drink coffee regularly make sure you don’t overdo it. A coffee mug should normally be 120 or 150 ml, but today there are 200-250 ml coffee mugs, which are quite large and can be harmful to health. You should not take more than 2 cups of coffee in a day. If brewed hot coffee does not suit your stomach you have cold coffee. Cold-bitter coffee is less bitter.
