The Israel Police is currently completing its preparations for the entry into force, tonight (Thursday) at midnight, of the full and close closure throughout Israel. As part of the operation known as “Winning Responsibility”, the traffic division of the police was conducted with increased forces. Division officers will operate on interurban arteries to enforce quarantine regulations.
Police said the operational activity would focus on a nationwide deployment of up to 25 checkpoints on major arteries leading to cities, around the clock. The checkpoints are designed to create a network of barriers between urban and interurban space, thereby increasing the effectiveness of closure enforcement.
In addition to the checkpoints, thousands of police and vehicles will operate around the clock, conducting searches on all the arteries across the country, and operating skipping barriers to locate civilians who do not comply with regulations. The traffic department noted that “due to the activity of the checkpoints and the strict inspection, there is an expectation of traffic congestion on some of the interurban roads. Therefore, the public of road users is required to prepare accordingly and drive with caution.”
“We reiterate that the public must obey instructions and refrain from unnecessary meetings with the police in the field, so that we can all maintain the health of all citizens of the State of Israel,” the traffic department concluded.
As part of the police deployment, thousands of police officers and Border Police officers will be deployed starting tomorrow in many centers around the country. Emphasis will be placed on the supervision and enforcement of the restrictions on assembly, traffic and commerce, as well as on the enforcement of the isolation obligation. The police will increase the activities initiated for supervision and enforcement, both in the inter-urban space and within the localities themselves.
Cabinet ministers last night approved the closure regulations, which currently will last two weeks. The closure will include restrictions on leaving and gathering places, shutting down the education system except for special education, closing jobs other than those that will be defined as essential, closing trade and places of recreation and leisure, and reducing public transportation.
