Apple’s next step for the Mac platform seems to be as it moves away from Intel getting closer, with an Apple Silicon-based iMac seen in a very reliable place … a Crash device Apple’s own Reporter.

The details come from Apple’s developer application. Recorded by Dennis Oberhoff, Chance Miller picks up the stick:
“9to5Mac was able to view the crash report file and confirm that the crash happened on ARM64 (the architecture used by Apple Silicon), and the family of the device matches the iMac, so it does not appear to be an error it’s a sign. “
This delightful slip by Apple can be added to reports across the supply chain of a new iMac for 2021. Among them the design of the device mimics the Pro Display XDR monitor that was released in late December 2019, the five pastel colors that will echo the iPad Air, and a move toward a 24-inch monitor.
The latest one is likely to replace the 21.5-inch model similar to the 16-inch MacBook Pro instead of the 15-inch version at the end of 2019. What this means for the 27-inch model inches still visible; Apple could take the opportunity to rationalize the iMac and iMac Pro line in the same way as the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro range by the end of 2020.
And of course Apple needs to update the iMac because it has promised to convert the entire range to Apple Silicon by the end of 2022, replacing the Intel-powered devices with ARM-based hardware itself. The M1 laptops are already here, and it’s clear that Apple is about to take the next step and bring Apple Silicon to the desktop.
