The Apple Watch may be 7 months away from launch, but thanks to some early rumors and familiarity with Apple’s smartwatch line, we already have an idea of what the next-gen model will bring.
As a continuation of the Apple Watch Series 6, the Apple Watch 7 could include several updates that will make the best smartwatch even better. We may see a new health sensor, improved display, better battery life and more.
Apple has been looking at a new smartwatch every year since 2015 (in 2020, it released two) so we’re pretty sure the Apple Watch Series 7 is the pipeline.
But what will be different? And what features are on our wish list? Here’s all we know about the Apple Watch 7 so far.
Apple Watch 7 release date
If we had to meet the release date of Apple Watch 7, we would mark the middle of September 2021. For the past few years, without fail, Apple has released a new smartwatch through a keynote address Tuesday in the Fall, with access starting Friday of that week or next week.
This year, Apple shared the next-gen Apple Watch and iPhone events for the first time. The Apple Watch 6 and Apple Watch SE debuted with the new iPad Air (2020), while the iPhone 12 lineup received an independent release (all significant, of course.)
It is possible that Apple will recommend its hardware releases fall if a live, personal key can happen in 2021.
Price Apple Watch 7
Unless Apple chooses to throw a financial puppy, we have a pretty good sense of what the price of the Apple Watch 7 will look like. Traditionally, the company’s entry level price for its flagship smartwatch in the 40mm size with GPS is $ 399.
The price goes up to $ 429 for the 44mm size, plus another $ 100 per size for Cellular support. That said, changes to size and connectivity options could change the cost of an Apple Watch.
This could be the year we see Apple reduce cell pricing, too. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 with LTE is only $ 50 extra, as is cellular for the midrange Apple Watch SE.
Apple Watch 7 rumors: What we want to see
While we can make informed estimates about the release date and price of the Apple Watch 7, the current rumors of the Apple Watch 7 are less accurate. We’re too far from launched for credible leaks to the surface, but for now we can see some of the features we’d like to see.
Improved battery life: Patentably, Apple has found evidence that Apple is researching a way to increase the battery life of wearables. The “Battery Watch Band” could improve battery capacity without increasing the size of the Guard itself.
We’re used to 18-24 hours of stamina of conventional models, but we’d welcome an Apple Watch that lasts longer between costs.
Blood pressure check: There are a few reasons why a blood pressure monitor could come to Apple Watch next year. First, it is a viable candidate for an informal annual health feature update. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 has a sensor for blood pressure monitoring, so there’s already a template that Apple can follow.
But the company seems to have a way of owning it. Apple ‘s recent patent filing allows it to track health with a built – in blood pressure test that incorporates correction factors. For comparison, Samsung’s blood pressure monitoring requires monthly calibration, which can be heavy.
Mental health tools: When the Fitbit Sense unveiled a series of weight management devices, we hoped that Apple would follow the similar features for Apple Watch 6. They did not materialize.
Apple may be taking a steady lead in life-saving features, but mental health devices are life-saving in themselves. Fortunately, two major leakers have confirmed that Apple is working on the path for your smartwatch to warn you of panic attacks and higher pressure.
MicroLED display: Apple Watch 7 could be ready to switch from an OLED display to a microLED screen, enabling a slimmer and more powerful Apple Watch. MicroLED displays offer better brightness and do not suffer from the decay problems of traditional OLED panel light.
In 2018 Bloomberg announced that the company is working out of a nondescript building in California to produce MicroLED displays. They didn’t appear for the Apple Watch 6, but the Apple Watch 2021 may get the new display handle.
