Apple supports World Water Day with a renewed commitment to sustainable water use

Apple has used World Water Day to pledge its ongoing commitment to existing partnerships working to increase the “efficient and safe” use of water resources.

As suppliers of iPhone components work to protect against drought, Apple has marked World Water Day with the announcement of its partnership with the International Federation for Sustainable Water Management (IASWM). This organization sets standards, and certifies compliance, for companies that rely on water for their manufacturing processes.

While a global commitment, Apple has focused on validating its Chinese supply chain partners.

“We strongly believe in lead power by example and we will seek to encourage initiatives in China and beyond to push their supply chains into water resources management,” said Ge Yue, west Apple president and managing director of Greater China, in a statement (in translation.)

“We would like to congratulate the supply chain initiatives recently piloted by the International Federation for Sustainable Water Management, but we will never stop there,” Ge Yue continued. Together, we will continue to work together to create new positive impact in the communities we work to protect more of this valuable and valuable resource. ”

World Water Day is a United Nations program, first held on March 22, 1993. In 2018, Apple partnered with the IASWM, and Chunhua Technology – Apple’s circuit board provider – received the certification. He has Alliance Gold. Many other companies have followed since then.

“We are excited to see more and more Apple supply chain companies participating in our certification programs,” said IASWM Regional Program Director for Asia Pacific, Sustainable Water Management Alliance, Xu Yu, which clarifies the impact and strength of our partnership with Apple to promote world-class water resources management. ”

“The management of freshwater resources requires cooperation and leadership,” Xu Yu continued. “The standards that Apple is constantly improving for itself and supply chain businesses are an example to the industry as a whole.”

Apple says its collaboration with the Alliance is part of the Clean Water program. In 2019, this project saved an estimated 9.3 billion gallons of freshwater worldwide. According to Apple ‘s World Water Day announcement, that rose to 41.3 billion gallons.
