Apple reportedly started making the iPad Pro with a mini-LED display in April

Apple Inc. on track to launch a new iPad Pro with a mini-LED display in April, according to the latest investment note from renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

According to Kuo, the new iPad Pro, an update from the last model announced in March 2020, is the first Apple product to use the display technology. A mini-LED display uses small light-emitting codes to produce the light of the display, promising to deliver high contrast ratios, wider color range and other image enhancement.

“According to our latest study, the average product and product quality have reached Apple’s high standards, so it is expected that collectors will start mass-producing mini-LED iPads after mid to late. April, ”Kuo said.

It was initially reported that Apple was looking at using the technology last year, but with it being a new technology with few costs involved, Apple’s efforts to bring it to market have been limited to so far.

Supporting the Kuo report, sources cited by Mark Gurman at Bloomberg say that Apple will release its new iPad Pro tablet as early as April. Along with the mini-LED screen, the devices will have an updated processor similar to the M1 chip used in the latest MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac devices.

The new iPad Pros are said to have improved cameras and support Thunderbolt connector, the only port on the latest Macs. The port does not require a new charger but enables connection to additional devices such as external monitors and hard drives. The existing iPad Pro model incorporates an industry-standard USB-C port.

The use of mini-LED technology in the iPad Pro is a stepping stone for Apple to roll out the screens across its products. As Apple Insider reported, Kuo has previously predicted that mini-LED screens are expected to grace at least two MacBook Pro models in 2021, with the MacBook Air benefiting from the technology in 2022. Kuo predicts 10 million mini-LED displays. in 2021 and between 20 million and 30 million in 2022.

Apple is not the only company developing mini-LED technology. The Chinese manufacturer was TCL Technology Group Corp. the first company to launch a mini-LED TV in 2019, while Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and LG Electronics Inc. plans to launch mini-LED TVs this year.
