Apple on Monday partnered with The King Center to launch the second installment of “Challenge for Change,” an educational series that encourages young people to participate in community service programs.
Named through it Apple Education live streams, the latest challenge goes at the same time as Martin Luther King Jr. Day and focus on social issues including race equality and tolerance.
In developing the campaign, Apple teamed up with the Hon. Dr. Bernice King, Head of the King Center for Non-Visa Social Change and the youngest daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. King in a video shared by Apple VP of Environment, Policy and Social Lisa Jackson’s initiatives on Twitter inspire educators to create positive change in the community.
“I challenge each and every one of us to make a positive impact on our community,” King says. ”
To help educators engage with the classes, Apple’s education team created a discussion guide and workbook to make challenge-based learning possible. The program revolves around identifying and resolving “guidance issues,” which in this case are “How can you create opportunities to make an impact in your community?”
Along with its own resources, Apple offers links to learning materials from the King’s Center, Nonviolence365, King’s Philosophy and more.
Apple’s first challenge invited teachers to “Create Opportunities for Sensible Conversations about Race.”
