Apple App Store customers spent $ 540 million higher than ever on New Year’s Day alone, marking a 40% increase from last year, the company said Wednesday in its annual services report.

In addition, Apple announced that it generated $ 1.8 billion in App Store sales of digital good in the week between Christmas Eve and now has 90 million monthly active users for the Apple Books app aige.

But the report did not provide subscriber updates for their latest suite of membership products such as Apple TV + (video streaming), Apple Music and Apple Fitness + (Peloton competitor). In the fall, Apple began bringing together many of its membership services as part of their Apple One program. The Services sector is a key growth area that Apple has been focusing on in recent years as hardware sales growth has slowed.

Apple’s Apple Store update also comes as tensions continue to mount over Apple’s control over its App Store policies. Several app developers, notably maker Facebook and Fortnite Epic Games, have publicly criticized Apple for taking a 30% cut in App Store sales from developers and for implementing a new policy that is designed to reveal which apps monitor your data for targeted advertising. Apple recently changed its policies to cut 15% from companies that generate less than $ 1 million in App Store sales, which the company said as a move to help small businesses.

In total, Apple Services generated revenue of $ 53.8 billion in the company’s last fiscal year, which ended in September 2021. Apple is expected to account for its fiscal earnings. in the first quarter in a few weeks.
