Leo Messi celebrates (Reuters)
The quarterfinals of the Champions League started tonight (Tuesday) and Barcelona star Leo Messi has already managed to record another great milestone when he scored with an accurate penalty against Paris Saint-Germain with a goal thanks to which the ‘flea’ has been scoring for 17 years in a row in the Champions League.
Thanks to the precise penalty he scored, Messi equaled as the top scorer for several consecutive years for the legendary Real Madrid striker, Raul Gonzalez Blanco, with 17 consecutive years in which he finds the net in the Champions League. While Raul did so between 1995 and 2011, Messi did so between 2005 and 2021.
Messi’s nemesis, Cristiano Ronaldo, has so far scored in just 14 consecutive years, when he first found the net only in 2007 and as is known, has not yet had a chance to find the net in 2021, but already in the game against Porto he will be able to update his balance to 15 consecutive years.
