There are players who will forever remain identified with one club, ones that are hard to imagine wearing a shirt in a different color. For a moment, we thought Sergio Ramos was one of those players. That he will forever be the symbol of Real Madrid. But in recent days, according to the Spanish media, a different impression is beginning to form.
The saga of Ramos and the Blancos has been with us for several months. Just last month, as I recall, the brakeman turned down offers to renew the contract for one year without a 10% pay cut or two years with a cut (unlike all the other players, including loanees like Luca Jovic and Martin Edgor). “He wants to continue,” El Pais wrote in an investigative article about Ramos Briel’s condition. “But he thinks he deserves more than what Peres offers – both in content and on the road.”
According to recent reports, Ramos approached the award with a juicy offer he received from PSG for a total of 20 million euros. Peres immediately demanded the French president’s assurance that such an offer had not been made, and so it happened, which prompted Peres to encourage Ramos to accept the offer. Later, according to the report, Ramos admitted that he was being deceived. According to sources close to the PSG, the report claims, “People are using the group for the benefit of negotiations.”
But it’s not just money that is bothering Ramos. The captain feels uncomfortable with the conduct around him, the short conversations, the occasional meetings. He believes that he deserves a written offer, an official conversation, such and such clarifications. As befits the Real Madrid legend. But Peres sees the big picture. He prefers to let Ramos go rather than change the offer, since he knows how delicate the club’s financial situation is. “If he leaves, we will bring in someone else,” he told Real’s board of directors in an article. El Cheringito added: “In Real, we see Ramos’ departure at the end of the season as a matter of course.”
Meanwhile, the Parisian coach, Mauricio Pochettino, was interviewed by the Spanish ‘Marca’ and among other things talked about the players who might join his team. “Ramos will find a club in Paris with an obsession with winning and winning titles, one of the biggest clubs in the world,” he said.
As you may recall, Ramos, who joined the Spanish champions from Sevilla more than 16 years ago, has established himself as one of the greatest defensive players in Spanish football of all time. The brakeman, who has become a huge symbol at the club, has led his team to 22 titles with 668 games in all competitions in which he has contributed 100 goals and 40 assists.
Meanwhile, Real have completed preparations for tomorrow’s league game against Levante. Ramos, Danny Carvajal, Lucas Vasquez, Federico Valverda and Rodrigo will be out due to injuries, as well as Nacho who contracted Corona.
