Four years ago today on March 3, 2017, the Nintendo Switch was released across most regions around the world.

With its amazing sales records and amazing library of games, it ‘s not particularly easy to remember how things were different for Nintendo before the Switch. We all know the story of Switch’s predecessor, the Wii U – and how, despite a strong lineup of first-party bigwigs, who were ultimately disappointed with third-party sales and effort – but Nintendo ‘s new console seems to have turned things around for the better.

Switch reached style back in March 2017, launching alongside The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – one of the best launch titles the world has ever seen and in fact, one of the games best ever according to critics. The app already had a kill on the system on the first day, but its sales, success and all odds have been streaming since then.

As the console reaches “the middle of its lifecycle,” Nintendo is confident it will go on to overtake the Wii. With a roster of upcoming games including Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Brilliant Pokémon diamonds and bright pearls, Monster Hunter Promotion, Metroid Prime 4, Splatoon 3, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, of course we would not be surprised if that happened.
