Anna Friel claims blonde helped her feel sexier in Marcella’s detective drama

She is ready to appear in the third season of Marcella’s police drama.

And Anna Friel thought about showing off her eponymous character in the new season at Wednesday’s press conference, revealing that going blonde helped her feel more sexy.

The 44-year-old actress has had to change her appearance as detective Marcella Backland is accused and takes on the name Keira Devlin to one of Belfast’s most famous groups, the Maguire family, to introduce.

How being a blonde bombshell helped, Anna said: ‘My favorite thing is being blonde, because it just gave her a completely different feel and swagger.

‘I wouldn’t say Marcella is a very sexual man and she doesn’t have sex herself – Keira does.

‘Keira uses her will and body. I don’t think Marcella was ever willing to do that before. So she’s exploring her sexuality, I think. ‘

To transform Keira, Marcella also had to start changing the wardrobe by wearing tighter and more revealing clothes, said Anna who helps the detective follow her ‘own body’ after her struggles with her fallen husband.

She explained: ‘It wasn’t about walking into an office with very tight stuff showing any cleavage or shape, in a way that men would want.

‘But being Keira she realizes that is necessary and begins to get a little more enjoyment out of being her own body and use that to her own advantage. She sees what a powerful tool it can be. ‘

Romance: Marcella also has an affair with Finn (Aaron McCusker), a member of the Maguire family, and although they shared a few sex scenes Anna said Aaron was ‘very respectful’

Talking about what it was like filming sex scenes with her co-star, Anna went on: ‘We got along so well and thank God we did, because there were a number of scenes close to us.
