The American Film Academy announced this week the winners of the Academy Awards (Oscars), in the Science and Engineering category for 2021: Prof. Meir Feder of the Ivy Walder Fleischman Faculty of Engineering and Dr. Zvi Reznik, his former student and co-founder of the startup Amimon – Amimon. Along with them, the company’s members Guy Dorman and Ron Yogev also won the award.

Every year, along with the announcement of the winners of the traditional Oscar ceremony, the American Film Academy also announces the winners in the various categories of scientific and technical awards that have significantly influenced the global film industry. As part of this, members of the academy announced that the wireless video technology developed by the team and implemented in the chips of “Amimon”, is the winner of the prestigious Oscar for a significant scientific and engineering contribution to the film industry. The company was founded in 2004 by Prof. Meir Feder, Dr. Zvi Reznik and Mr. Noam Geri, also a university graduate.
“The technology is capable of transferring very high quality video footage from multiple film centers instantly and without any delay, thus enabling the film director and control team to have complete control over all angles at once. It is now widely used in the global film industry,” explains Prof. Feder .
“The main importance in Prof. Feder’s development is to shorten the set-up time in multi-camera productions (multi camera). The latest technology saves production time and significantly increases the time devoted to the work itself, “says Yosef Pitchhadze, a senior faculty member at the Steve Tisch Film and Television School and filmmaker.
Depending on the situation, Prof. Feder gave an unofficial speech from his home garden: “This is a very exciting day for me, and it is a great pride for Tel Aviv University. We developed the basic technology in 2005-2004, when everyone thought the task was difficult to impossible. We knew It’s a real technological achievement, but we never imagined we would get an Oscar for it. About a year ago we were informed by the award committee that we were nominated, but I did not attach importance to it, I saw it as a gimmick. When I suddenly received an official email from Hollywood Academy. “At the academy I won many awards, but there is no doubt that the Oscar is the most famous of all. For us it is a great achievement and I am very proud of it.”
