Amazfit T-Rex Pro Review: Rugged and honored

Huami is one of the fastest growing brands in the wearables space right now. The manufacturer may have been successful with Xiaomi’s Mi Band, but its own Amazfit range has done well in creating supermarket fitness bands and smartwatches that are full of features and not. bankrupt. The Amazfit T-Rex Pro is one such smartwatch.

The Amazfit T-Rex Pro is a rugged fitness watch aimed at sports enthusiasts who love to be rough. The smartwatch has 15 weapon-level credentials for being able to handle real environments. It also upgrades the water resistance from 5ATM on the previous model to 10ATM. This means that the watch should be able to survive underwater for up to 100 meters instead of 50 meters.

The Amazfit T-Rex Pro always features a 1.3-inch AMOLED display, 18 days of battery life promised with a 390mAh battery, built-in GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, and Huami’s self-developed BioGracker PPG 2 sensor for heart rate and SpO2 measurements. There is also an acceleration sensor, gyroscope sensor, geomagnetic sensor, ambient light sensor and barometric altimeter.

The body of the T-Rex Pro is made of plastic. Its round dial has four navigation buttons, two on each side, just like before. A silicone strap is attached to the main unit with a sweat-resistant design.

With all these attributes, the T-Rex Pro comes in at Rs. 12,999 in India and $ 179.99 in the USA. It stacks up against the Honor Magic Watch 2, Huawei Watch GT 2, Mi Watch Revolve, Fitbit Versa 2, and several other sub- $ 200 smartwatches. In its own ecosystem, the T-Rex Pro is slightly cheaper than the Amazfit Stratos 3 at Rs. 13,999 (~ $ 193). It costs the same as the new Amazfit GTR 2 and GTS 2, but those smartwatches aren’t rugged and target a different kind of buyer.

What is good

The Amazfit T-Rex Pro does a lot of things right. Its foundations are solid, as things like step tracking, continuous heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen readings, GPS, alert alerts, and sleep monitoring just work. The watch offers over 100 modes of action and fun, so you won’t be left wanting more.

The first thing that strikes you is the bright and vibrant display of the Amazfit T-Rex Pro. The color screen responds nicely, and its functionality always works as expected.

You can significantly extend the battery life of the watch if you leave the display constantly turned off.

What I really appreciated was that, even with the feature that was always turning on, the smartwatch gave me five full days of heavy use.

That said, you can greatly extend the battery life of the watch if you leave the setting constantly turned off. Amazfit claims that the T-Rex Pro can deliver nine days of juice in heavy use and 18 days in basic use. From the experience I got with the T-Rex Pro and Amazfit smartwatches in general, that’s okay.

Overall, the package you receive is very strong and durable. With improved 10ATM water strength, taking the T-Rex Pro in the shower or taking a good ol ‘dip in the sink was a walk. Of course, I couldn’t get it out for a swim because there were COVID restrictions for public pools in my area, but you should have no problem with that.

What’s not so good?

For all its good features, the Amazfit T-Rex Pro has its problems too. For starters, it doesn’t support third-party apps, just like most of its sisters in the Amazfit range. Don’t expect to sync your fitness stats with other apps like Google Fit or Strava, and don’t forget about things like Spotify to play music without having to carry your phone around.

The watch could not automatically detect my afternoon walks or bike rides.

The T-Rex includes exercise tracking for activities such as walking, cycling, etc. However, in my experience, the watch could not automatically detect my afternoon walks or bike rides. I had to start on the path physically to make it work.

Another limitation is its design of the watch. It doesn’t look bad by any means, but it is very heavy and may not appeal to everyone. My wrists are slender and the watch stands out, looking a little weird. In addition, changing straps will not be easy as there is no quick fix method.

Lastly, the watch’s GPS needs a bit of work as it tends to go a little off track, just like I saw with the Amazfit GTS 2 Mini. It’s not a big deal if you’re not a sticker for proper GPS tracking, but it could do with some improvements.

Amazfit T-Rex Pro Review: Should I Buy?

If you want a value-for-money GPS smartwatch that is rugged and can withstand harsh environments, you can definitely go for the Amazfit T-Rex Pro. It’s built to survive on land and underwater and packs enough brag for your buck, with a few arrangements that aren’t too hard to digest.

On the other hand, you can consider the GTS 2 or GTR 2 if you want a simpler design and aren’t into big dial smartwatches. You can also consider the Fitbit Versa 2 or Garmin’s under-$ 200 watch.
