Israeli startup Carbyne, which allows citizens to report emergency services to the video services without downloading an app, announced today (Thursday) the completion of Round B in the amount of $ 25 million. The round was led by Hanaco Ventures and ELSTED Capital Partners, which also included GMI Ventures, former CIA chief David Petrauss and existing investors in the company – including the Peter Thiel Founders’ Fund and FinTLV. It is estimated that the round of funding was carried out at a value of more than $ 100 million.

Turn the corona into an opportunity

The Carbyne platform (Carbyne, formerly Reporty) allows citizens to switch from a standard phone call to a video call with the caller, without any need to download an app. If necessary, the caller sends the caller a link via SMS or WhatsApp, and once the caller clicks on it and confirms access to the camera and microphone, he can start the video call, show the caller the hazard, send him the exact location, and even correspond with him instead of talking to him.

In a conversation with Giktiim, the company’s CEO Amir Elihai says that the Corona contributed to the demand for the product: “We received inquiries from emergency centers who were looking for innovative ways to communicate with citizens as the number of emergency callers and dedicated Corona centers increased dramatically and unprecedentedly.”

Elihi says that in addition to the core capabilities of the platform, the company has also launched a symptom identification questionnaire, which allows emergency centers to create visual maps upon receiving responses from users, which show in real time the density of applicants according to the symptoms they presented.

According to Elihi, the last round of funding was originally planned for early 2020 with a target of $ 15 million, but with the eruption of the corona and uncertainty, the company decided to postpone the fundraising: “Which led to greater recruitment.”

Former CIA chief David Petraeus, who took part in investing in the company in the current round, said: “The ability to provide transparent communication between civilians, emergency centers, first responders, and government and local bodies will prove its importance. . “What Carbine provides will significantly strengthen the media in the most important moments.”

Carbyne, founded by Elihi, Alex Dizengoff and Yoni Yatson in 2015, has raised $ 53 million so far. Carbine plans to establish a presence in each of the 50 states in the United States by 2023, alongside its activities in other parts of the world – with the goal of providing a service to about 1.5 billion people.
