All we know about the ‘Chilling Reign’ extension in Pokemon TCG

The next English extension for Pokemon TCG called Chilling Reign has recently been announced, and players only have to wait until June before they can get their hands on it.

But, so far, there is only a small amount of information that reveals what the next expansion might bring to the Pokemon TCG.

In just three days, another expansion is ready to fall for the Pokémon TCG, called Battle Styles. This expansion is largely against Armed Island DLC for Pokemon Sword and Shield, which means players can draw Pokémon cards such as Kubfu and Urshifu. Battle Styles will be released on March 19, and there seems to be a ton of demand.

Considering that the upcoming Battle Styles expansion is based on the Island DLC in Pokemon Sword and Shield, at least some details can be predicted for the Chilling Reign expansion.

Prophecies about the Chilling Reign expansion for TCG Pokemon

As previously mentioned, there is no definitive information on exactly what the Chilling Reign expansion will entail, but predictions can be made for what to expect.

For starters, there are over 70 cards dedicated to the DLC to which players can expect to pull in the packs. The Gallic forms of the three Legantary Kanto birds may have their own cards in the set or even a combination.

If the Battle Styles expansion is equivalent to Armor Island DLC for Pokemon Sword and Shield, then it just makes sense that Chilling Reign serves the same purpose. If based solely on name, Chilling Reign would take over the role of the Crown Tundra DLC that was released for Pokemon Sword and Shield back in October 2020.

Both Chilling Reign and Crown Tundra are almost identical in terminology, which gives players another proof of what comes with the next Pokemon TCG expansion. If Urshifu is the poster child of Battle Styles, it is also possible to gauge what Chilling Reign uses.

Calyrex, Frostrier and Glastrier are very likely to be the main mascots for the card packs as soon as the expansion falls. These Pokemon followed the theme of coldness and royalty better than anything else, and were also mascots for Crown Tundra DLC in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

The biggest challenge when the new expansion drops is, of course, getting hold of any packages at all. The combination of scalpers and the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed prices higher than ever, along with demand for individual packs.

Scalpers grab as many packs as possible, and scarcity will be a real problem. The Pokemon Company even announced a few weeks ago that they needed to increase production. Hopefully there will be a little easier access to the Chilling Reign extension on TCG Pokemon.
