Alfa Romeo leader Frederic Vasseur misses a pre-season test in Bahrain after recording an advanced coronavirus test.

The 52-year-old Frenchman returned a positive result in his home country and, although a second test conducted two days later returned a negative result, Vasseur does not travel to Bahrain according to local rules.

Vasseur shows no Covid-19 symptoms and is “in good spirits”, according to his team.

Alfa Romeo’s statement read: “For the safety of Mr Vasseur himself, the team, his competitors and the community as a whole and for French rules, Mr Vasseur will not travel to Bahrain and will continue to work from home for the next one. seven days, as required by local authorities.

“Mr. Vasseur will be fully employed and attached to the garage throughout the trial, and a team vice-principal will not be named, with no further impact on our activity this week.”

In its own statement, Formula 1 said: “No other members of the Alfa Romeo Racing team have been affected, and the procedures outlined by the FIA ​​and Formula 1 will not ensure that more extensive on this week’s pre-season test that will continue as planned. “

The F1 test kicks off Friday morning at 7am, live on Sky Sports F1, with the three-day event running until Sunday afternoon.
