Ake and Gundogan fitness update

Pep Guardiola will wait until Saturday before deciding whether Ilkay Gundogan will play in Sunday ‘s game against Arsenal.

The German midfielder missed the midweek win over Everton after suffering a groin injury in the previous game against Tottenham Hotspur and has yet to return to full training.

Gundogan was involved in part of Friday morning’s session at City Football Academy, but Guardiola says he will take the 30-year-old until tomorrow to prove he is healthy.

“Gundo played just as part of today’s session,” he said at his pre-match press conference.

“Tomorrow we’ll see how he feels. ”

Guardiola did not raise any concerns about new injuries ahead of the trip to the capital, and he also had good news about Nathan Ake.

The defender has a muscular problem that has kept him out for 15 games, with his last sighting coming in a Boxing Day win over Newcastle United, but he has started a separate training program while and he returns to full well-being.

“Nathan has returned to training on his own, but he is closer to coming back,” said the mayor.

“The rest is fine.”
