It is true to say that the world of games was well shaken by the news that Tribute Games (Scott Pilgrim) and Dotemu (Rage Streets 4) work together to create Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Revenge Shredder, a spiritual fan of Konami ‘s classic TMNT arcade machine and its sequel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time.
We have news now other 1990s Konami arcade brawler gets unofficial “update”. Released in 1991, when Konami allowed almost any living building he could get his hands on, Asterix they captured the famous heroes Gaul René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo and put them in the same game engine TMNT: Arcade Game.
That meant a lot of side-scrolling scripting action with some nice 2D pictures and great audio. It may not have reached the same heights as TMNT’s journey – perhaps because Asterix and its portal Obelix were not as popular at the time as the all-controversial Turtles – it was a good time still there, and any attempt to revive the concept is definitely finding favor here at Nintendo Life Towers.
And you know what? That’s exactly what’s happening, with the efforts of publisher Microids and developer Mr. Nutz Studio. Asterix and Obelix: Slap Them All coming to Switch, PC, PS4 and Xbox One, this autumn, and some nice hand-drawn 2D artwork to go along with the “very straightforward” activity aige.
Here is some PR:
Get ready to prove your bravery! Asterix and Obelix: Slap them all! Settled in 50 BC Gaul completely annexes the Romans and only one small town of incompetent Gauls still holds out against the invaders. Play as Asterix & Obelix and sail to the most iconic locations in the comic book series as they battle the forces of Roman legionaries, pirates, breeders and even the desperate Normans.
Mr. Nutz Studio above development Asterix and Obelix: Slap them all! and makes this adventure as popular as the original material possible. The developers chose to go with an artistic direction very close to the comic book where the characters, scenes and also the animations are drawn by hand. A true homage to the animated 2D classics and style that will surely appeal to retro fans and gamers.
Unlike the magic pot, the play recipe is very simple and there is no mystery. Think of the main mechanics that explain the beat’em up genre and sprinkle with some local co-op! By Jupiter, by Teutates .. Those Gauls are deceiving!
Asterix has appeared in a few video games during its time – the latest Asterix And Obelix XXL 3 on Switch – and while they’ve never been as solid as Konami’s coin-op effort, there’s clearly a huge audience for these characters. Hopefully Slap Them All will be up to the level that these famous Gauls deserve.
