African countries receive more than 26 mln doses of COVID-19 vaccine from COVAX, bilateral boxes

African countries have received more than 26 million COVID-19 vaccines both from the COVAX facility and through bilateral agreements outside the COVAX facility, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.

CDC Africa, the African Union (AU) specialist health care agency, said late Friday that about 28 AU members have received the batch of COVID-19 vaccines from the COVAX facility, making up about 16,245,560 doses.

Of these, approximately 7,272,148 doses were administered, according to the group.

In addition to the COVID-19 vaccines received from the COVAX facility, some 18 African countries have received COVID-19 vaccines outside the COVAX facility through bilateral agreements, accounting for approximately 10,034,220 doses, note.
