Abbott launches pandemic protection coalition to investigate future virus changes, viral outbreaks

Abbott launched a pandemic defense consortium dedicated to studying coronavirus changes and developing rapid response plans for future viral outbreaks, the medical manufacturer announced March 11.

The consortium builds on Abbott’s decades of experience in virus analysis by analyzing virus samples for unknown diseases and detecting viral changes, starting with forthcoming changes. the crop of the novel coronavirus.

Worldwide, Abbott collects virus samples and analyzes them for mutations in the genetic sequence of the virus. As new changes are discovered, Abbott will make sure their diagnostic tests are found.

The consortium has entered into a partnership with Rush University Health System. It has also partnered with organizations specializing in virus identification, analysis, sample collection, testing and data analysis in Columbia, Thailand, Senegal, South Africa, Jamaica, Brazil and India.
