A very middle pair ‘agrees to a unification title fight’ in May

The pair were due to go into battle in May 2020 but are likely to take place a year later.

The Athletics reports that it will take place on the Cinco De Mayo weekend. The Mexican celebration of falling on Wednesday this year means the bout is likely to take place on May 1 or May 8.

The broadcaster DAZN will stream the fight all over the world except in Canelo’s home country.

But before Canelo can think of Saunders, he will face opposing opponent Avni Yildirim in Miami on February 27th.

Canelo is their favorite to win the fight so he is expected to turn around to meet Saunders a little over two months later.

Saunders is undeveloped in 30 fights but Canelo has once lost his professional career

The 30-year-old claimed two 168-pound titles with a big impact on Callum Smith in December.

Canelo has made it clear that he wants to unite all four titles and become an undisputed hero at a very medium weight.

Saunders has a title, as does Caleb Plant, who will take over Caleb Truax on Saturday.

Canelo signed a two-fight contract with Matchroom Boxing earlier in January with boss Eddie Hearn encouraging Saunders.

‘Superb’, who will be regarded as the underdog, seemed to confirm the news on his Twitter account.

He tweeted the caption: “Being injured is one of the biggest competitive benefits you can get. ”
