A suspect was arrested for assaulting and injuring Chef Shalom Kadosh during a robbery

Cleared for publication: Today (Saturday) a suspect was arrested for assaulting 74-year-old chef Shalom Kadosh. Yesterday it was reported that the holy chef from Jerusalem who is hospitalized in critical condition at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital: he was attacked earlier this week by a thief, a few hours before his daughter’s wedding. According to police, advanced measures have led to locating the suspect.

“After days in which investigative actions were carried out using advanced capabilities and means, a 40-year-old suspect, a resident of East Jerusalem, was arrested in the afternoon,” it was reported. The man allegedly stole a vehicle and injured a saint. “The suspect was taken in for questioning and tomorrow at the end of the holiday the police will ask the court to extend his detention.”

On Sunday, the chef’s wallet was stolen from his vehicle while he was parking at a gas station on Bethlehem Road in Jerusalem. Kadosh spotted the suspect as he stole his wallet from the car, confronted him and tried to stop him. The suspect forcibly pushed him to the floor – and a saint fell and was hit in the head.

MDA staff evacuated Chef Kadosh to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital, where he is hospitalized in the neurosurgical department. Chef Kadosh’s condition continues to be difficult as he is anesthetized and respirated at the hospital. The findings of the investigation show that he arrived at a bank branch and withdrew cash, apparently for payment. Tips for waiters and other service providers at his daughter’s wedding that day, as well as the possibility that the thief may have seen and followed him, and when he arrived at the gas station to refill his car tires, he took the opportunity to take the bag or wallet out of the car.

The name of Chef Kadosh is known in Israel and around the world. He immigrated to Israel at the age of 14 and grew up in Afula, a member of a family of nine children, and in 1967 he graduated from the “Yordei Yam” cooking school in Haifa – and began working as a cook on passenger ships and cargo ships. Kadosh has run festivals of Israeli food around the world, received the Hotel Decoration in 2005, in 2013 cooked the official dinner for former US President Barack Obama and in 2018 was awarded the title of Beloved of Jerusalem for his work.
