A sexual health expert has warned that Brits could face increased gonorrhea once lock up and life will begin to return to normal.
The President of the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) Dr John McSorley has raised concerns that, as restrictions are lifted, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) could arise.

Talk to MyLondon, Dr McSorley said: “There are a lot of similarities between Covid and STIs. The notions of social distance and loneliness have been in sexual health for a long time.
“We’re on our way back to where we were a year ago. How we open the club again we can expect more gonorrhea and syphilis.
“People are going back to living a normal life as best they can and that includes a safe and attractive sex life.
“About 80 to 90 percent of people have seen their sexual activity decline in the past year.”
The doctor went on to say that the clinics he runs in west London have seen a five per cent increase week on week – adding: “They have seen a slow and controlled increase in clinics.
“The biggest problem is reversible contraception (LARC). It’s the area that needs the most action.”

It became nicknamed ‘super gonorrhea‘, experts warned the STI can be intractable with antibiotics, due to overuse.

“Azithromycin – a common antibiotic for the treatment of respiratory diseases – has been used to treat Covid-19 earlier in the illness.
“During the pandemic, STI services were also disrupted. This means that more STI cases are not being properly diagnosed with more people taking self-medication as a result.

“It simply came to our notice then gonorrhea inclusion gonorrhea superbug (super gonorrhea) no gonorrhea with a high level of resistance to conventional antibiotics recommended for treatment. “
The spokesman said: “There will be permanent rays gonorrhea they remain a major challenge to STI prevention and control efforts. “
