A more contagious strain of the coronavirus first detected in the UK at the end of last year could be mainstreamed in the United States by March as the country races to vaccinate humans. against the disease, according to a new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“The model path of this variation is in U.S. shows rapid growth in early 2021, growing as the biggest variable in March, ”according to a CDC study published Friday.

Researchers have warned that more spread could put more pressure on the nation’s hospitals and require more public health strategies to prevent the virus so that enough people can get the vaccine.

To date, the U.S. has only detected 76 cases of Covid-19 with the infectious variant, known as B.1.1.7, according to CDC data last updated Wednesday. However, many of the identified cases have been in people who do not have a travel history, suggesting that the variability is spreading in the unidentified community.

This is an evolving story. Please check back later for updates.
