A healthy diet is said to help diabetic patients manage the condition more effectively. It is always advisable to follow a diet with low glycemic index foods, low sugar content and low fat foods. Recently, the benefits of low-carb foods have emerged, especially for faster weight loss. This recent study also linked the low-carb diet to improved diabetes conditions. Researchers of the study said that continued consumption of low-carb foods leads to early relief of Type 2 diabetes. It means, the diet controlled the disease and down the requirement of medications such as insulin injections.

The research conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of the effects and safety of low-carbohydrate diets (LCDs) and very low-carbohydrate diets (VLCDs) for people with Type 2 diabetes. The results were published in the BMJ.

For the study, randomized clinical trials evaluated LCDs (<130 g / day or <26% of the 2000 kcal / day diet) and VLCDs (<10% calories from carbohydrates) for 12 months. 14759 citations identified citations with 23 trials from 1357 participants. Significantly clinically significant improvements were seen in weight loss and insulin sensitivity at six months, which decreased at 12 months. At 12 months, there was little data on mitigation, ranging from a small effect to a slightly higher risk for diabetes.

The study concluded that patients who adhere to an LCD for six months could suffer from diabetes without side effects.
