A 31-year-old Toronto man was identified by his brother on Facebook as one of four people killed in an attractive fire Friday morning in the east end of the city.
A Facebook page titled “In Loving Memory of Matthew Zdybal” was created by Eric, Zdybal’s younger brother, who sent a long, heartfelt message Sunday afternoon confirming his death.
The fire that broke out at the home of 95 Gainsborough Rd., Near Coxwell Ave. and Gerrard St. E., four and sent two others to the hospital.
Zdybal grew up in Port Credit and was active in extracurriculars like cheerleading and baseball, the post said.
“He was always willing to help and had a heart of gold that was obvious to anyone he met in his life,” the Facebook post said.
The post describes Zdybal as an “extremely hardworking worker” who had a love of the outdoors, working and playing on the family farm in Vanessa, Ontario.
“It was difficult to find a time where there was no smile on his face and he will be remembered for his infectious personality. He was a great family member and friend and will be greatly missed by all, ”read the post.
The GoFundMe page has also been set up to help all those affected by tragedy.
Marianna Mitrovic, who knew victims through a friend who lived in the house, started the page and is working with Rebecca Ackerman, Gainsborough community member Katharine L. Harrison and close friend of the Dennis Kiriopoulos family to raise money built.
Organizers said money will go towards funeral expenses and help those affected rebuild their lives.
On Sunday afternoon, more than $ 34,000 was raised.
Toronto police said they will not identify anyone a victim unless it becomes a criminal investigation.
However, the other three victims were identified through GoFundMe – Jana Jansons, granddaughter of Kai and Amanda Freimanis.
A number of posts on the GoFund Me book marked Me Freimanis as a DJ who went by the stage name “Amanda Panda,” saying that she wanted to make people happy with her music.
“Panda loved to dance and share the energy of the dance floor with her tribe,” read another message. “Her amazing spirit and energy immediately impressed everyone who knew her. ”

A separate GoFundMe page reported that Arija, Kai’s mother and Jansons ’daughter, is a survivor who is in a critical condition in hospital.
Toronto Fire Services declined to confirm details of her situation.
