Joseph Flavill recently woke up from a coma lasting 10 months and with no knowledge of the pandemic while battling a serious traumatic brain injury. Flavill, 19, was hit by a car on March 1, 2020 – three weeks before the first lock and has remained in hospital ever since.

His aunt Sally Flavill Smith told BBC News that waking him up was something “we’ve been hoping for every day at lockdown”.
