A 2% reduction in public transportation fares; A single trip will become more expensive

The Ministry of Transportation announced today (Wednesday) a reduction in public transportation fares that will take effect at the beginning of next month. Public transport fares by bus and train will be reduced by an average of 2.15%. In their view, “the tariff reduction reflects the reductions that have taken place in the bus and train input basket in the past year. The new tariffs will also be updated in all the various validation widgets, including the Ministry of Transportation’s ‘station’ widget.”

As part of the discount, a municipal “free monthly” subscription in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Haifa will be reduced from NIS 213 to NIS 208.5, while a municipal “free monthly” in the Be’er Sheva metropolitan area will be reduced from NIS 149 to NIS 146. At the same time, a municipal “free daily” subscription in the metropolitan areas of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Haifa will be reduced from NIS 13.5 to only NIS 13. A “free daily combined” subscription in the Kiryat Gat-Ashkelon area will be reduced from NIS 13.5 to NIS 13, a “free daily” subscription in the Beit She’an-Afula cluster will be reduced from NIS 21.5 to NIS 21 and a “free combined daily” subscription will be reduced from NIS 37.5 to -36.5 shekels.

Public Transport

On the other hand, in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Haifa, a single travel ticket will cost NIS 6, instead of the current NIS 5.90. In the Hadera-Netanya cluster, the price will stabilize at NIS 2.5 instead of NIS 2.3 so far. The Ono-Elad cluster will cost NIS 4.5 for a single trip, instead of NIS 4.40.

According to the new supervision order, the age of eligibility for a “senior citizen” in public transportation will be adjusted from next month to the Senior Citizens Law, age 67 for men and 62 for women. New entrants will be entitled to a discount in accordance with the new order. Passengers who have already been issued a “senior citizen” profile prior to the new order will continue to enjoy a 50% discount on public transportation.
