On Saturday, Pope Francis broke the traditions by choosing a woman for the post of senior senator. Pope Francis appointed his sister Nathalie Becquart as one of the sub-secretaries to the General Secretariat of the Assembly of Bishops.

- Nathalie Becquart was born in 1969 in Fontainebleau, France.
- Becquart received a master’s degree in management from HEC Paris. She studied theology and philosophy at the S Center Paris in Paris and sociology at the School of Progression in the Social Sciences (EHESS).
- Sister Becquart specialized in ecology at Boston College and did her research on synodality.
- She took a theology and philosophy course at St. Joseph Jesuit University while working as a volunteer teacher in Beirut, Lebanon.
- Sister Becquart worked as a consultant in advertising and marketing for NGOs and Chrisitan organizations in Paris and joined the Xavières sisters, Missionaries of Jesus Christ of France in 1995.
- Nathalie Becquart played a major role in preparing for the 2018 Assembly of Bishops on young people. She served as speaker, assembly coordinator, and observer at the assembly.
- From 2012 to 2018, Sister Becquart was director of the national office for youth evangelism and careers at the French Bishops ’conference.
- Pope Francis recently named Nathalie Becquart’s sister as one of the under-secretaries to the General Secretariat of the Assembly of Bishops.
