UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson revealed on Saturday that 350,000 people had so far received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine in the UK. The UK launched a major vaccination program earlier this month after the COVID-19 vaccine created by American drug dealer Pfizer and Germany’s BioNTech received the green light from the British medicines regulatory body.
Johnson gave the update on vaccine figures announcing a new set of restrictions for parts of the UK. The Prime Minister has said that London and large areas in the south of England will already be placed at the highest level of the UK government’s three-dimensional coronavirus alert system moving into a new Level 4 required to close all non-essential shops, hairdressers and indoor leisure centers after the end of business hours on Saturday.
He also announced that a planned relaxation of social rules that would allow up to three families to meet in “Christmas bubbles” from December 23 to December 27, will be postponed for Tier 4 areas and cut sharply in the rest of England. England’s chief medical officer Chris Whitty warned the country was in a “critical and dangerous time” in its fight against the virus and urged people to keep their Christmas gatherings as short as possible ‘ where possible.
